Mount Rinjani is the towering active volcano at the heart of Lombok, and Indonesia’s second-highest at 3,726 metres. Protected within a UNESCO Global Geopark, it’s one of the country’s greatest trekking adventures — a climb past savannah ridges and rainforest to a crater holding the stunning Segara Anak lake, natural hot springs, and a summit sunrise over Bali and Sumbawa.
Most treks run over 2–4 days, starting from the village of Senaru (the rainforest route) or Sembalun (the savannah route to the summit). It’s a challenging climb best done with a certified local team handling permits, the official quota booking, mandatory insurance, guides, porters and camping.
