Sembalun Trekking Trail General Information

The trail begins at an altitude of around 1,150 meters above sea level and climbs gradually through beautiful savannah grassland and rolling hills with beautiful views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Along the way, you’ll pass through dense forests, open meadows, and scenic viewpoints, such as the famous “Pos 3 Pada Balong” where you can enjoy stunning views of Mount Rinjani and the valley below.

From the starting point at Sembalun Lawang village, it usually takes around 7-8 hours to reach the Sembalun crater rim, which is located at an altitude of around 2,639 meters above sea level. The time taken to reach the rim can vary depending on individual fitness levels, weather conditions, and the pace of the trek. However, with an experienced guide and proper preparation, most people should be able to complete the trek within this estimated time frame.

Once you reach the Sembalun crater rim, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding landscape, including the nearby Segara Anak Lake and the peak of Mount Rinjani itself. From the Sembalun crater rim, the trail to the summit begins at an altitude of around 2,639 meters above sea level and climbs up to the peak of Mount Rinjani, which stands at 3,726 meters above sea level. The trekking distance is around 3.8 kilometers, and the trail can take anywhere between 5-7 hours to complete, depending on your fitness level and the weather conditions.

The trek starts with a steep ascent up the side of the crater rim, which involves scrambling over loose rocks and boulders. As you climb higher, the terrain becomes increasingly difficult, and you’ll need to use your hands and feet to climb up steep slopes and rocky ridges. Along the way, you’ll encounter several rest stops where you can take a break, hydrate, and catch your breath before continuing the ascent.
