The Gili Islands are three tiny, car-free islands off the northwest coast of Lombok — Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno. Famous for clear turquoise water, white-sand beaches and reefs full of sea turtles, they’re among Indonesia’s most beautiful and easygoing tropical escapes. With no cars or motorbikes anywhere, you explore on foot, by bicycle or by cidomo horse cart.
Which Gili Island Is Right for You?
Each island has its own character. Gili Trawangan is the largest and liveliest, with the best dining, diving and nightlife. Gili Air is the closest to Lombok and the best all-rounder, balancing relaxed island life with just enough cafés and culture.
Gili Meno is the smallest and quietest, the honeymoon island. Not sure which suits you? See our guide to which Gili is right for you, or read the individual guides to Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno.
Things to Do in the Gili Islands
Snorkelling and diving are the highlight — turtles, coral gardens and the famous underwater statues are all just offshore. Beyond the water, you can cycle around the islands, relax on the beaches, watch the sunset over Bali’s Mount Agung, and enjoy fresh seafood at beachside warungs. The pace is wonderfully slow on all three.
How to Get to the Gili Islands
The Gilis are reached by fast boat — directly from Bali (around 1.5–2.5 hours) or a short hop from Lombok’s Bangsal harbour. Boats stop at each island in turn. We arrange the transfers as part of any trip, so it’s seamless. Explore more on our Lombok destination page.
