This 4-day Tanjung Puting orangutan tour is for travellers who want to go deeper into Borneo’s wild heart. Over four days and three nights aboard a private klotok houseboat, you’ll cruise the Sekonyer River, visit the orangutan feeding camps, and trek further into the rainforest. You’ll even plant a tree, leaving your own mark on the jungle you’ve come to protect.
The extra time matters. Wildlife is unpredictable, so a second visit to a camp gives you another chance to see the orangutans up close. As a local Indonesian operator since 2006, we handle every detail, so you simply relax and take it all in.
More days mean more wildlife, and a richer experience. Visit all three feeding camps, including the legendary Camp Leakey, and return to a favourite for a second encounter. Join a reforestation project and plant a native tree. Enjoy longer guided jungle treks in search of wild orangutans, proboscis monkeys and hornbills. We travel responsibly, supporting the conservation work that protects these great apes — learn more from the Orangutan Foundation International. For a shorter trip, see our 3-day Tanjung Puting tour, or explore our Borneo destination page.
Four days let the jungle reveal itself slowly. You cruise, watch the riverbanks, and visit the camps at their feeding times. There’s time for longer treks and quiet moments on deck. Meals are freshly cooked on board by your crew. Nights are spent under a mosquito net, with the sounds of the forest all around. The pace is gentle, and the reforestation day adds real meaning to the trip.

Arrive at Pangkalan Bun airport, where your guide meets you and transfers you to Kumai port. Board your private klotok and begin cruising up the Sekonyer River into Tanjung Puting National Park. In the afternoon, visit the Tanjung Harapan feeding camp for your first orangutan encounter. As night falls, watch for proboscis monkeys and fireflies along the banks. Dinner is cooked fresh on board; sleep on deck under a mosquito net.
After breakfast, cruise to the Pondok Tanggui feeding camp for the morning feeding, followed by a guided jungle walk through dense rainforest. Continue upriver to the legendary Camp Leakey, founded by Dr. Biruté Galdikas, for the afternoon feeding and a forest trail where semi-wild orangutans roam free. Another peaceful night on the river.
Today you give back. Join a reforestation project and plant a native tree, helping regenerate the rainforest. Then return to a favourite camp for a second chance to see the orangutans — wildlife is unpredictable, and a repeat visit often brings new sightings. Enjoy a longer jungle trek and quiet cruising, watching the banks for wildlife. Your final night aboard the klotok.
Enjoy a final early morning of birdwatching and wildlife spotting as your klotok cruises gently back to Kumai. Transfer to Pangkalan Bun airport for your onward flight. End of services.
The extra day gives you a second visit to a feeding camp — a better chance of close orangutan sightings — plus longer jungle treks and the meaningful reforestation activity.
Easy to gentle. Tanjung Puting is flat — boardwalks and simple jungle paths — with relaxed cruising between camps. It suits most ages and fitness levels.
Yes. Families are very welcome, the pace is gentle, and children love the orangutans. Younger children can stay on the boat with the crew during longer walks.
On your private klotok. The upper deck becomes a comfortable sleeping area at night, with a mattress, bedding and a mosquito net.
Year-round, though the drier months (roughly April–October) are most comfortable. Bring a light rain layer, as tropical showers are part of the experience.
By a short flight from Java — usually Jakarta, Surabaya or Semarang. We can advise on connections and arrange transfers.
