Bromo Ijen tour delivers two of Indonesia’s most spectacular volcanoes in one unforgettable adventure. You’ll watch the sunrise paint Mount Bromo’s smoking caldera, then hike before dawn to witness the eerie electric-blue flames of the Ijen crater. From seas of volcanic sand to a glowing acid lake, it’s an otherworldly journey through the fiery heart of East Java.
This is raw, dramatic Indonesia. As a local Indonesian operator since 2006, we handle the jeeps, guides and timing, so you can focus on the spectacle.
You see two bucket-list volcanoes the right way. Catch the legendary sunrise over Mount Bromo from a classic viewpoint, with Mount Semeru smoking behind. Cross the vast “sea of sand” to the crater rim. Then hike Ijen before dawn to see its famous blue fire and turquoise crater lake, and meet the sulphur miners who work there. It conveniently ends near Banyuwangi, the ferry gateway to Bali. See our full Java destination page, or add a Yogyakarta tour for the full Java experience.
This is an active adventure with very early starts. The Bromo sunrise involves a pre-dawn jeep ride and short walk; Ijen is a roughly 2am hike, steep in places, with sulphur fumes (masks provided). The rewards are extraordinary and unique. Between the volcanoes you travel through scenic East Java. Accommodation is simple and close to the trailheads. Bring warm layers — it’s cold before dawn.

Moderate to challenging. It's a roughly 2am start, climbing for around 1.5–2 hours, then a steep descent toward the crater. Reasonable fitness is needed, and we provide gas masks for the sulphur fumes.
It's visible most clear nights in darkness, but depends on weather and volcanic conditions, so it can't be promised. The crater and lake are spectacular regardless.
Cold before dawn at both volcanoes — bring warm layers, a hat and gloves, and closed shoes.
Best for fit teenagers and adults. The early starts and Ijen hike are demanding for young children.
