Bali Itinerary: The Perfect 5, 7 & 10 Days (A Local’s Guide)

Planning a Bali itinerary is exciting, but it’s also where most travellers get stuck. The island offers so much — culture, volcanoes, rice terraces, beaches and nearby islands — that fitting it into your days takes some local know-how. As an Indonesian team that’s shaped Bali trips since 2006, here are the three itineraries we recommend most, depending on how long you have.

Each plan below is built for a relaxed pace, with day-by-day suggestions you can follow or mix. For the full menu of experiences, see our guide to the best things to do in Bali.

How Many Days Do You Need in Bali?

Here’s the short version. Five days covers the island’s highlights at a gentle pace. Seven days is the sweet spot, adding culture, nature and beach time without rushing. Ten days lets you go deeper, or add the dramatic Nusa islands or a second island like Lombok or Java.

Our advice: base yourself in one or two areas — usually Ubud and the south — rather than changing hotels every night. Less packing, more holiday.

Bali Itinerary: 5 Days

The essentials, at an easy pace. Perfect for a first visit.

Day 1 — Arrival & South Bali. Land at Denpasar, settle into your hotel, and ease in with a beach sunset and a welcome dinner.

Day 2 — Ubud Culture & Nature. The Tegallalang rice terraces, the Sacred Monkey Forest, the Ubud art market and a cooling waterfall.

Day 3 — Temples & Coffee. The Tirta Empul holy spring and a coffee plantation, finishing with sunset at the Tanah Lot sea temple.

Day 4 — Uluwatu & Beaches. A free beach morning, then the clifftop Uluwatu Temple, a Kecak fire dance and seafood at Jimbaran.

Day 5 — Departure. A free morning before your airport transfer.

This is the rhythm behind our Bali Highlights Tour.

Bali Itinerary: 7 Days

Our most-recommended Bali itinerary. The highlights, plus culture, countryside and time to breathe.

Day 1 — Arrival & Ubud. Settle into Ubud, Bali’s cultural heart.

Day 2 — Ubud Arts & Nature. Rice terraces, Monkey Forest, art market and a traditional dance in the evening.

Day 3 — Temples & Crafts. Tirta Empul, a coffee plantation and a silver workshop in Celuk village.

Day 4 — Adventure Day. A Mount Batur sunrise trek or Ayung River rafting for the active; a gentler waterfall-and-village day for others.

Day 5 — To the Coast. Transfer south. Tanah Lot on the way, then settle into a beach base.

Day 6 — South Bali. Uluwatu Temple, Kecak dance, and free beach time in Seminyak or Jimbaran.

Day 7 — Departure. A relaxed final morning, then home.

Bali Itinerary: 10 Days

With ten days you can keep the relaxed seven-day plan and add something special. Three ways to do it:

Option A — Bali + Nusa Penida

Add the Nusa islands for two or three days. Stand above the Kelingking cliff, snorkel Crystal Bay and swim with manta rays. We package this on our Bali and Nusa Penida Tour.

Option B — Bali + the Gili Islands

Trade a couple of days for the car-free Gili Islands off Lombok — snorkelling with turtles and pure beach time. See our Bali and Gili Islands Tour.

Option C — Bali + Java or Lombok

Fly to Java for the temples of Borobudur and the volcanoes of Bromo on our Java and Bali Trip, or cross to Lombok with our Bali and Lombok Trip.

Bali With Kids or as a Couple

Travelling as a family? Keep the pace gentle, with wildlife parks, calm beaches, gentle waterfalls and the famous jungle swings. As a couple or on honeymoon? Lean into private villas, couples’ spa days, floating breakfasts and clifftop sunsets. We tailor any of these itineraries to suit you.

Best Time & Practical Tips

Bali’s dry season, around April to October, is the most reliable for sightseeing and beaches. The wet season is greener and quieter, with short afternoon showers. Distances look small but traffic is slow, so a private driver-guide is the easiest way to follow any of these plans. And don’t over-pack the days — leave room for a long lunch and an unplanned beach.
