How to Get to Komodo: Flights, Labuan Bajo & Boats
Working out how to get to Komodo is easier than you might think — a short flight from Bali lands you in Labuan Bajo, the gateway to the national park. As a local Indonesian team that’s run Komodo trips since 2006, here’s our clear, practical guide to reaching the dragons and islands.
Planning the wider trip? Start with our Komodo travel guide.
The Gateway: Labuan Bajo
Every Komodo trip begins in Labuan Bajo, the harbour town on the western tip of Flores. Its airport has grown quickly with tourism, and the town is full of boats, dive shops and restaurants. From here, the national park is just a short sail away.
Flights to Labuan Bajo
The easiest way in is a short flight to Labuan Bajo (LBJ). There are frequent direct flights from Bali (Denpasar), around 1.5 hours, plus connections from Jakarta and other Indonesian hubs. We can advise on the best timings to fit your trip.
Exploring the Park by Boat
Komodo National Park is explored by boat — there’s no other way. From Labuan Bajo, you join either a day trip or a multi-day voyage that sleeps aboard. Boats range from simple day vessels to comfortable cabins with air-conditioning. We arrange the right boat for your trip, along with the park permits and ranger fees.
Day Trip or Overnight Voyage?
A day trip covers the closest highlights, while a multi-day boat trip reaches more islands, catches sunrise at Padar, and allows more diving and snorkelling. For most travellers, a two- or three-day voyage is the sweet spot. We’ll help you choose based on your time and budget.
Do You Need to Arrange It Yourself?
You can book independently, but coordinating flights, a reputable boat, permits and timing takes effort — and boat quality varies hugely. Most travellers find it far easier and safer to have a local operator handle everything. That’s exactly what we do.
Combining Komodo With Flores
Since Labuan Bajo is also the gateway to Flores, the two combine perfectly. Add an overland Flores adventure before or after your Komodo voyage — see our Flores tours.
Let Us Handle the Logistics
The simplest way to reach Komodo is to let a local team take care of the flights, boat, permits and timing.
Tell us your plans and we’ll arrange it all. Message us anytime on WhatsApp, or browse our Komodo tours. As always, we’re happy to share a local’s advice — whether you book with us or not.
