Flores overland tour crosses one of Indonesia’s most fascinating islands, from west to east. Over five days you’ll travel the scenic Trans-Flores Highway, through highland villages, past volcanoes and megalithic stone settlements, to the magical tri-coloured crater lakes of Kelimutu at sunrise. It’s a real adventure through the heart of Flores.

Flores is a land of volcanoes, ancient cultures and deep Catholic and animist tradition. As a local Indonesian operator since 2006, we handle every detail of this private overland journey.

Why Choose This Flores Overland Tour

You see the real Flores, far beyond the coast. Watch the sun rise over the colour-changing lakes of Kelimutu. Visit the megalithic Ngada villages of Bena and Luba near Bajawa. Soak in volcanic hot springs. See the Lingko spider-web rice fields. We travel responsibly, supporting the communities along the way. Add dragons and islands with our Komodo tours, or explore the full Flores destination page.

What to Expect

This is a journey, not a beach holiday. Days involve scenic but long drives on winding mountain roads, broken up by villages, viewpoints, waterfalls and hot springs. The highlight is a pre-dawn climb to Kelimutu for sunrise over the three lakes. The pace is active and the rewards are constant. Comfortable hotels and guesthouses along the route.

Tour's Location

Q. How long are the daily drives?

Several hours each day on winding mountain roads. The scenery is beautiful, but if you're prone to motion sickness, bring remedies — we keep a comfortable pace with regular stops.

Q. Why visit Kelimutu at sunrise?

The light at dawn is best for seeing the lakes' colours, and the atmosphere is magical. The colours change over time due to volcanic mineral activity.

Q. Is it suitable for families?

Yes, for families with older children who can handle long drives and an early start. It's a journey-style trip.

Q. Can it combine with Komodo?

Absolutely. Start or end in Labuan Bajo and add a Komodo boat trip. Just ask.

Q. What's the best time to go?

The dry season (April–October) for the best roads and clearest Kelimutu sunrises.
